AN EXPLOSIVE NEW SERIES FROM THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ROD REYNOLDS, INTRODUCING THE INTREPID DETECTIVE CASEY WRAY

Book blurb
When a young woman makes a distressing middle-of-the-night call to 911, apparently running for her life in a quiet, exclusive beachside neighbourhood, miles from her home, everything suggests a domestic incident.
Except no one has seen her since, and something doesn’t sit right with the officers at Hampstead County PD. With multiple suspects and witnesses throwing up startling inconsistencies, and interference from the top threatening the integrity of
the investigation, lead detective Casey Wray is thrust into an increasingly puzzling case that looks like it can have only one ending.
And then the first body appears, and Casey’s investigation plunges her into a darkness she could never have imagined…
Black Reed Bay introduces a breathtaking, powerful and addictive new series, fronted by the fantastic Detective Casey Wray, from the CWA-nominated author of Blood Red City and The Dark Inside.

My thoughts
After a desperate call to 911 a woman goes missing, disappears into thin air. In the ensuing investigation Detective Casey Wray and her partner Detective David Cullen discover a number of bodies. None are their missing person, Tina Grace, so who are they? Are the cases linked? Where is Tina? Will they find her buried somewhere too?
In this well written, totally engrossing and complex story the reader is given layer upon layer of perplexing information on crimes which appear not be linked. Yet the coincidences surrounding these crimes make it hard not to be at least curious about a connection. Detective Casey Wray is very curious and the more she digs the more things seem to be linked except that the evidence, the motive isn’t clear. As soon as one lead appears it goes nowhere. Then the disturbing phone calls begin – to Casey, to Tina’s mother Maggie Grace – but nothing puts Casey off looking for Tina.
It’s this overpowering desire to find Tina that leads Casey into some dangerous situations one, in particular, brings a heartbreakingly sad conclusion when chasing down a lead. Then Casey is hit with another blow to the beliefs she has held about her work life, about her close colleagues. As she tries to process all that is happening a direct threat to her life is received and Casey has to disengage from the investigation, go to a safe place.
Continuing to work the case Casey makes a breakthrough. Will she finally understand what happened? Will the murderer come to light? Will she find out what happened to Tina?
With incredibly good writing Rod Reynolds has brought readers a really well crafted book with a story set in the USA that oozes with richly drawn characters and an excellent story full of intrigue.
What a wonderful, upstanding, strong, tenacious and caring lead Rod Reynolds has penned, a female character in Casey Wray that should have every crime fiction reader rushing to grab a copy of Black Reed Bay and devour this incredible book.
I loved it and highly recommend Black Reed Bay to you all.
