2024 Challenges

There was no Daphne Du Maurier (DDM) week this year so in the end a challenge not undertaken. Reading Orwell 2024 this was a bit of a washout for me as I didn’t read any – hopefully I will read some in 2025!

A bit of a slow start but I managed two books for my first year of reading The Classics Club

This is a challenge to read fifty classic books over five years and I’m glad to have made a start albeit with just the two books.

I’ve read a fair bit of historical fiction and have enjoyed reading it.

I enjoy reading from across the world and quite a few in translation. I am incredibly grateful to have been invited to join several blog tours this year which have been of books in translation from many countries including from Europe by publishers, authors and their blog tour operators.

Reading Ireland Month 2024 I’ve been reading Ireland month for a few years now and I really enjoy it. Thanks to the host Cathy @746books

This challenge has become a real favourite of mine.

Just the one book read for the 1937 Club | The Case is Closed (Miss Silver Mystery’s #2) by Patricia Wentworth

These challenges are ‘one off’ with regard to the year – Karen at Kaggsy’s Bookish Ramblings and Simon at Stuck in a Book co-host the year clubs.

My list of 20 books another terrific challenge hosted, for the last time, by Cathy @746books after 10 years.

Huge thanks to Cathy for making this challenge so easy and engaging.

Moomin Week (my reading) was a one off challenge this year and an enjoyable one, thanks to the hosts – Mallika and Chris.

I’m sure to read more Tove Jansson in the future.

The Wood in Winter by Stella Gibbons | The Man Called Noon by Louis L’Amour | Murder at the Savoy by Maj Sjöwall & Per Wahlöö Tr.: Joan Tate

Another year club from Karen at Kaggsy’s Bookish Ramblings and Simon at Stuck in a Book co-hosts the year clubs. There are usually two clubs each year.

There is little better than to read a novella they’re beautiful – small yet perfectly formed. Wonderfully hosted by Cathy @746books

2024 comes to an end

Well there it is, 2024 in my reading. I hope that you’ve enjoyed your visit to my blog this year and that it may have inspired you to read something I’ve written about or just simply read.

I have two books still to share my thoughts on and I will be doing that in the coming days.

Whether you like to read hardbacks, paperbacks , audiobooks, graphic books or ebooks. Whether crime fiction, historical fiction, literary fiction or any other genre of fiction is a favourite. Maybe you prefer to read nonfiction. Whatever format, whatever kind of book you prefer I hope you continue to enjoy reading.

It would be great if you could support independent publishers and independent bookshops but remember there are libraries that provide a great (and in the U.K. a ‘free’) service so your support for them is invaluable. Lastly, the authors – what better way to support them than by reading their book(s) and posting a review wherever you can – on a booksellers site, on social media, on your blog/website etc – tell your friends and family or request a book be bought by your library. These actions can all help keep writers writing and publishers publishing.

Finally, I wish you all a very Happy, Healthy, Safe and Peaceful New Year.
