“YOU’VE NEVER READ A LOVE STORY AS TWISTED AS THIS. THE MUST-READ THRILLER OF 2018…”
Description
Meet Juliette. She’s intelligent, driven, committed – and in love.
HER LOVE IS A DEADLY OBSESSION
Juliette loves Nate.
She will follow him anywhere. She’s even become a flight
attendant for his airline, so she can keep a closer eye on him.
They are meant to be.
The fact that Nate broke up with her six months ago means nothing.
Because Juliette has a plan to win him back.
She is the perfect girlfriend.
And she’ll make sure no one stops her from
getting exactly what she wants.
True love hurts, but Juliette knows it’s worth all the pain…
My thoughts
As you know I attended the the Headline New Voices 2018 event in Manchester and The Perfect Girlfriend is the second of the five to be published. With thanks to Headline for my copy.
This is a well written story of a woman that has had a great tragedy when young leaving her feeling guilty and vulnerable she needs support and friendship. She then suffers rejection and this will shape a fragile mind.
Years later she is living with Nate, she is happy, she is in love…….. then Nate decides he needs space, everything has happened to quickly and he’s not ready to be in a permanent relationship, not ready to settle down.
These things lead to Juliette to make a plan. She works hard to get Nate back. She goes to great lengths to get what she wants. As we follow Juliette plotting and planning the story unfolds. The things this woman gets up to beggars belief and yet is somehow believable.
Karen Hamilton draws you into Juliettes world, her knowledge of airline work adds authenticity and her imagination delivers an unbelievable debut novel. I would say that the end is oooh…. (No spoilers here!).
We enter the mind of a woman obsessed and it’s fascinating, gripping and really creepy.

Author: Karen Hamilton spent her childhood in Angola, Zimbabwe, Belgium and Italy and worked as a flight attendant for many years. Karen is a recent graduate of the Faber Academy, and having now put down roots in Hampshire to raise her young family with her husband, she satisfies her wanderlust by exploring the world through her writing. THE PERFECT GIRLFRIEND is her first novel.
“I caught the travel bug after an early childhood spent abroad (Angola, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Belgium and Italy) and have worked as cabin crew for a major airline. In 2006, my husband and I put down roots in Hampshire and four years ago, I gave up flying to raise our three sons and concentrate on my writing. Now that they are a little older, I’ve begun travelling again (as and when it’s possible) and enjoy exploring places through their fresh eyes.”
